Who We Are

At Hogar de Gina, we serve as a place of refuge for up to twenty girls aged 4 to 22. These young girls come to Hogar de Gina for various reasons, with the most pressing being abandonment, poverty, and abuse. In Peru, many families struggle to provide necessities for their children. Unfortunately, illness, abuse, and malnutrition are widespread issues, leaving countless children unable to attend school and thrive. At our home, we foster a safe haven where these girls can not only take shelter but, most importantly, build a brighter future.

What We Do

At Hogar de Gina, we are more than just a home—we are a family, a refuge, and a launchpad for bright futures. Our mission is built on two pillars:

  1. Providing Essentials with Love
We make sure every girl has the basics they need to thrive—a safe home, nourishing meals, and access to healthcare. These essentials aren’t just necessities; they’re the first steps toward feeling secure, valued, and ready to embrace the future.

  2. Inspiring Big Dreams and Bold Futures
We believe every girl deserves to dream big. That’s why we go beyond the basics to encourage creativity, independence, and the courage to chase ambitious goals. With the support of our loving caretakers and skilled professionals, we help each girl discover her potential and take bold steps toward making her dreams a reality.

At Hogar de Gina, we don’t just provide a place to stay—we offer hope, inspiration, and the tools to build a brighter tomorrow. Together, we’re creating a world where every girl can shine.

History & Namesake

The Gina Foundation was founded by Arjan de Rijke and Marjon Reffeltrath. In January 2007, they visited Peru and encountered a five-year-old girl named Gina in a shelter. Her innocence and constant curiosity won their hearts. During their visit, they became aware of the harsh realities faced by children in institutional care in Peru, often as a result of abandonment.

Tragically, on May 22, 2007, Gina lost her life in an accident related to the poor conditions of her shelter. In her memory, the Association of Hogar de Gina was established, committed to creating a safer and more nurturing environment for abandoned and at-risk girls and teenagers like Gina.

The Gina Foundation was officially founded in September 2008 through a notary deed. Based in Holland, the foundation supports various projects both domestically and internationally, all aimed at promoting childhood development. Currently, it is focused on supporting "Hogar de Gina" in Peru.
